Why does my pet need pre-anesthetic bloodwork? Pre-anesthetic bloodwork is performed for the safety of your pet. Anesthesia is processed through your pet's liver and kidneys, if these organs are not functioning properly your pet may have complications from the anesthesia. Pre-anesthetic bloodwork checks the values of your pet's liver and kidneys to insure a safe recovery.
*If your pet is over one year old, we will require a minor blood work profile to be performed in place of the basic pre-anesthetic blood work. This profile will increase the cost of the spay by $59.25 for pets up to 10 years old. A heart worm test within the last year will need to be on file for any pet receiving anesthesia (excluding pets under the age of 10 months). If no test is available we can perform one for a nominal fee with the pre-anesthetic blood work. We do ask that a current rabies vaccine certificate be made available if we have never seen your pet before. If they are not current on their vaccine, please let us know.
Additional charges may apply if your pet is: Cryptorchid (testicle(s) not descended), in heat, pregnant or obese.
As a declaw alternative we offer soft paw placement. Bring your soft paws to us and we will place them on your cats nails free of charge the first visit, and $20 for follow up visits. ($45 if your pet requires light sedation). Most soft paws come in multiple sets and most sets last 6 weeks or more, so it is an inexpensive alternative to a permanent and painful procedure.
Please understand that there are 3 different types of declaw procedures used in veterinary medicine. Because of this, there will be a wide range of prices you may receive.
Here are the differences:
Rescoe Clipper method (or Guillotine method): A medical instrument resembling a pair of nail clippers is placed at the base of the nail and pressed through or above the first joint. Unfortunately this method can cause jagged bone to remain under the skin causing discomfort and infection.
Dis-articulate method: The first bone of the digit is disconnected from the second bone leaving a smooth surface under the skin.
Laser method: This method uses a laser instead of a scalpel blade to perform the Disarticulate method.
